Panasonic LUMIX Lab 3.0 Adds RAW Editing and Phone-Based Firmware Updates
Panasonic has detailed a May 2026 update for the LUMIX Lab mobile app that adds RAW photo editing, app-based camera firmware updates, Slow & Quick video editing, and more flexible LUT controls. The update is scheduled to go live on May 20 UTC, with the first in-app camera firmware rollout planned for the LUMIX S9 in June.
Overview
Panasonic announced the LUMIX Lab App Ver. 3.0.0 update on May 12, 2026, alongside a related firmware roadmap for the full-frame LUMIX S9. The app update is scheduled to arrive on May 20 at 1:00 a.m. UTC through mobile app stores, while the S9 firmware update is planned for June 2026.
For photographers who increasingly manage images from a phone or tablet, the headline change is that Panasonic is moving more of the post-shoot workflow into the companion app instead of leaving it as a transfer-and-share tool. That makes the update more relevant than a routine bug-fix release: it changes what can be done before a desktop editor is even opened.
RAW Editing on Mobile
The largest new capability is RAW editing support in LUMIX Lab. Panasonic says RAW files shot on cameras that are compatible with the app can now be edited directly inside the mobile app, enabling more detailed adjustments than the JPEG-first workflow the app previously emphasized.
Panasonic has not positioned LUMIX Lab as a full Lightroom-style desktop replacement, but the addition still matters because it shortens the path from capture to usable file. For travel, street, and social delivery workflows, being able to review, adjust, and export from a phone is a meaningful speed improvement.
Firmware Updates Through the App
Panasonic is also bringing firmware delivery into LUMIX Lab. Compatible cameras and lenses can now be updated through the app rather than requiring photographers to download firmware on a computer and copy it manually to a memory card first.
There are still a few conditions: Panasonic says a memory card must be inserted, LUMIX Lab must be updated to version 3.0.0, and the camera must already be on a minimum required firmware version. The first camera firmware release distributed through the app is scheduled to be the LUMIX S9 update in June 2026, with interchangeable-lens firmware updates expected around mid-2026.
LUT and Workflow Changes
Version 3.0.0 also adds Slow & Quick video editing, updated app UI, and expanded LUT creation controls. Panasonic says LUTs can now be created with added parameters including grain, color noise, sharpness, and noise reduction.
For the LUMIX L10 and the S9 running version 2.0 firmware, Panasonic is also adding in-app editing for My Photo Style plus wired transfer support for images, LUTs, and style edits. The company says those wired transfers are intended to improve transfer speed and connection stability compared with a purely wireless workflow.
Availability and Compatibility
Panasonic says the May 2026 LUMIX Lab update supports the following cameras as of announcement time: S1RII, S1II, S1IIE, S5II, S5IIX, S9, GH7, G9II, and the new fixed-lens L10. RAW editing is limited to images captured on cameras that are compatible with the app.
Taken together, the update is a notable software-side move for Panasonic: it shifts more image handling, customization, and maintenance tasks onto mobile devices. That is especially relevant for photographers who want faster turnaround without immediately exporting everything into a desktop-centric workflow.
